Grotesque Artwork: Film “The Fly” Directed by David Cronenberg – Art of the Week Halloween Edition

Hello and welcome to today's blog post! As many of you know, I am absolutely obsessed with literature. I adore the stories of old, the roughness of an old book, and the adventures that I get to be a part of through every heartfelt tale; literature is truly a gift. However, there's another story format that I am a complete nerd for—that, my friends, is film. I'm what you call a film buff, or at least I like to think I am. I'm obsessed with the magic and wonder of cinema; from the special effects to the IMDb stats, I love it all. One movie that has fanned the flame of my love for cinema is "The Fly," directed by David Cronenberg. It is also my all-time favorite 80's horror film—the best movie for October. Today I wanted to share the artwork behind the special effects from "The Fly"—because, you know, film is art too, and we must acknowledge the beauty, or in this case, the grotesqueness of it. Let's jump in!

Hello and welcome to today's blog post. As I am writing this, my campus has been swimming with puddles across the street and dewdrops resting soundly on the bushes. Sometimes we have to take things slow and enjoy our seasonal festivities indoors. Let's jump in and discuss a few cozy fall activities on rainy days such as this!

Death and Power: Saturn Devouring His Son by Francisco de Goya – Art of the Week Halloween Edition

This is one of Francisco de Goya's most famous and popular Black Paintings. Like the rest of the collection, this painting is a dark, haunting, and terrifying depiction of Goya's mind. "Saturn Devouring His Son" is rich in imagery, symbolism, and meaning that help bring to life the disturbing nature of this piece. To better understand this painting, one must have context about Greek mythology.
